Most students returning to school to obtain a MBA
say that finding the "right" job upon graduation is a primary
concern. Because finding an internship and a full-time job are priority
for you, the UT MBA Program has dedicated Career Services staff to assist
you in your search. MBA Career Services has two primary areas of focus:
1.) Employer Development - Building and maintaining recruiting relationships
with employers to benefit both the student and employer and 2.) Career
Development- Providing students with needed resources to strengthen their
job search skills. Based on feedback from employers, the MBA Program has
initiated several strategies for enhancing student's job search skills.
Ultimately, the internship and job search processes
are your responsibility. However, by taking advantage of the assistance
offered by the UT MBA Career Services Office, you will gain job search
skills that will be useful to you throughout your career.

MBA Career Services collaborates with UT Career Services to schedule and

Company Visits
MBA Career Services Staff, UT Career Services
Staff, and MBA Faculty make visits to company sites to promote the UT
MBA Program and our highly qualified students. These visits are just one
piece of the company- program relationship development process.
MBA Career Fair
The UT MBA hosts a Career Fair each Fall for employers
and students to meet one another and share information. This has been
a tradition since the Fall of 1999.
UT Campus-wide
Career Fairs
A campus wide career fair is held during the fall
of each year and a campus wide Summer Job and Internship Fair is held
each Spring Semester. These fairs are sponsored by the UT Career Services
Office and are open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Over 160
companies attended the Fall 2001 Career Fair.
Online Student
Profiles
Student Profile information is available on the
web for employers to get to know UT MBA candidates. This is an excellent
way for employers to view qualified MBA candidates. Students can continually
update their information and may include a link to their personal website
with their resume if they choose.
Alumni Database
The Alumni Database is maintained by the MBA Program
Office and is a great way for students to network with Alumni who are
in the field.
Conferences
MBA Career Services Staff attend several conferences
each year (e.g. NBMBAA, NSHMBAA, and the International MBA Masters conferences)
to network with MBA employers from all over the country and world. This
is a great way for the program to build contacts and promote our students.
MBA Employer
Contact List
MBA Career Services maintains and updates this
contact list with over 700 corporate contacts. This list is made available
to MBA students to network and locate contacts at companies they are interested
in. The Contact list is also used to promote students and MBA events to
employers through mailings and phone calls.
Company
Information Sessions
Companies that visit campus to interview are invited
to hold Company Information Sessions where they can present information
about their company, answer student questions, and meet students one-on-one
in a non-interview setting.
National
Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Mailings
MBA Career Services promotes the UT MBA program
and students via NACE mailings each year.
National
MBA Source for Careers in Brand Management Participation
The National MBA Source is an excellent way for
marketing students interested in brand management. The program specializes
in consumer marketing and represents many of the top consumer packaged
goods firms. The National MBA Source selects a number of qualified second-year
MBA candidates from select schools to interview with top companies. Selected
students are provided with useful training and feedback on your resume
and interview style through the National MBA source.
Executive MBA
Mentoring
Executive MBA provide mentoring to some of the
full-time MBA students. This is an excellent opportunity for students
in the full-time program to stay abreast in their field, develop contacts,
and more.
Web-Mining
The MBA Career Services office and graduate assistants
conduct web-mining activities at various times during the year to gather
information about hiring companies to expand the UT MBA network.

WetFeet Online Library
The WetFeet online library is accessible for current
MBA students via password. This further access to the Library allows students
to download current and useful information on job search strategies. Information
includes articles and booklets on case interviewing, interviewing by function,
industry information, and more.
Resume Review
Information on Resume Development is provided
through the Career Development Seminar Class (BA 501- details listed below).
Career Services Staff along with the MBA communications specialist assist
students with the resume development process. Staff is available to critique
resumes and provide feedback to enhance the job search.
Cover Letter Review
Information on Cover Letter Development is provided
through the Career Development Seminar Class (BA 501- details listed below).
Career Services Staff and the MBA Communications specialist are available
to review and critique cover letters in order to better refine the job
search.
Mock Interviews
Mock Interviews are an excellent way to practice,
prepare, and refine your interviewing skills before interviewing with
companies. Even experienced interviewers can benefit from additional interview
experience. Feedback is provided on the interviewees interview content,
preparation, communication skills, body language, and more.
Individual
Career Advising
MBA Career Services Staff, Career Services Graduate
Assistants, and UT Career Services staff is available to provide individual
advising on career interests and job search strategies.
Second
Year Student Internship Panel
Second year MBA students are invited to serve
on an internship panel to share information about their internship experience
and the process of securing an internship.
Alumni Career
Panels
MBA Alumni are invited to serve on corporate panels
in the Career Development class. The panels include: Finance, Operations,
Logistics & Transportation, and Marketing. This is a fabulous opportunity
for students to gather more information about what career opportunities
are available for their concentration and job search ideas for finding
the job they want. The panels also provide an opportunity to network with
individuals in the corporate world.
Job Search Information on the MBA Website
Job search information can be found on the MBA
website. Information is included on the following topics: resume writing,
cover letters, case interviews, behavioral interviews, business etiquette,
business dress, dining etiquette, and more.
