A number of MBA students who desire careers
in fields other than finance often pursue finance for a co-concentration
or as a minor because of the excellent preparation it affords them.
The finance concentration allows students to tailor their program
to their professional goals and to prepare for one or more of the
following career opportunities:
Investment Management: This
focus prepares the candidate for a career as a security analyst,
money manager, brokerage firm analyst, insurance company representative,
or other financial job function.
Corporate Financial Management:
Financial management is concerned with the
duties of the financial manager in business, including risk management,
strategic planning, budgeting, financial forecasting, cash management,
credit administration, investment analysis, and funds procurement.
Commercial & Investment Banking: This
specialty is geared toward those who plan management careers in
commercial banking, investment banking or capital markets.
Course work attempts to blend coverage of traditional commercial banking
topics (lending, investment and trust services) with investment banking
topics (underwriting, market-making, and initial public offerings), in
keeping with the trend of consolidation for these two areas.
