Conducting Interviews

On Campus Interviews

On-campus interviews are an excellent (and convenient) way to meet and evaluate qualified candidates face-to-face. The Career Services staff can help you select an appropriate interview date for you to visit our campus. You select all interview candidates in advance from resume books and applications submitted electronically by students. Career Services staff manages the actual scheduling of students and will reserve private suites for your recruiting team in our interview facilities located in Dunford Hall. To Schedule an on-campus interview, contact the MBA Career Services Office

Typical Interview Schedules

Generally, interview schedules begin at 8:30 AM and wrap up by 4:45 PM. And although you have the option to customize your interview day schedule there are three standard formats most employers use for organizing interviews with students on-campus. 30, 60, and 90 minute interview schedules.

30 Minute Interviews – If you choose to hold 30 minute interviews, you will be able to maximize your visit to campus by providing you with the opportunity to meet as many as 13 students in one day, while still leaving time for 2 short breaks and a 75 minute lunch. This format will give you the most interview slots, but will not give you as much time with each student. Here is a sample interview day schedule if you choose 30 minute interviews.

45 Minute Interviews – A standard 45 minute interview schedule will give you 9 interview slots, 1 break, and a 75 minute lunch. This format is generally preferred by MBA employers as it provides more time to discuss in greater detail the experience and skills of the applicant. This format is also often used with second round interviews that take place on-campus. Here is a sample interview day schedule for 45 minute interviews.

60 Minute Interviews – Holding 60 minute interviews will provide you with the opportunity to dig much deeper into the applicants’ experiences than the shorter interviews, but you will be limited to only 7 interview slots and a 75 minute lunch break. Here is a sample interview day schedule if you choose 60 minute interviews.

Videoconference Interviews

UT Career Services is equipped with a personal videoconferencing unit to allow video communication between candidates and employers. The Intel ProShare System is PC based and very simple to use. An employer that does not own this type of equipment may use a local videoconferencing company at very reasonable rates. This type of communication is effective for interviews or meeting with faculty and other key campus contacts.

Telephone Interviews

Telephone interviews allow for a tremendous amount of flexibility in interviewing. UT students have interviewed via telephone in the UT Career Services Office, the MBA Office and, of course, at their homes. A staff member can arrange telephone interviews in the same manner as on-campus recruiting and videoconferencing. Interviewers need only call the designated phone number at the appropriate time.
