Q: How long does it take to complete the UT Full-Time MBA Program?
A: 17 months
Q: Can I choose either a spring or fall start date?
A: No. Our Full-Time MBA Program begins only in the fall.

Q: Is the GMAT or GRE required?
A: Yes, an admissions test, either the GMAT or GRE is required. For more information about program-specific test requirements/exemption consideration, please visit Admissions Test Options and Exemptions.
Q: Where can I learn about the GMAT or the GRE?
A: Everything you need to know about taking the GMAT (including test times and locations) is at www.mba.com. For learning more about the GRE (including test times and locations), please visit the Educational Testing Services website.
Q: How can I prepare for the GMAT or GRE?
A: Test prep tips and sample questions are included on the GMAT website, www.mba.com, and for the GRE, please go to www.ets.org. In addition, most bookstores and libraries have test preparation titles available, and many local colleges offer GMAT and GRE preparation courses.

Q: What is the application deadline?
A: For U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents, we continue to accept applications for Fall 2017. The application deadline for international applicants was February 1.
Q: Do I need a specific undergraduate degree to apply?
A: No. There are no coursework prerequisites. If you do not have a business academic background, however, we highly recommend that you take one or all of the following undergraduate classes: finance, accounting, and statistics.
Q: If I do not have a business background, will that hurt my chances for acceptance into the program?
A: No. In fact, not having business experience may enhance your application. We love diversity, and welcome candidates from all academic and cultural backgrounds, life and work experiences, and geographic locations.
Q: Is prior work experience required?
A: We strongly recommend that all candidates have professional work experience (paid position, internship, and/or co-operative learning) prior to entering our MBA program.
Q: Can I transfer graduate credits earned at other schools?
A: Due to the unique structure of our program, transfer credit typically is not awarded. In certain circumstances, credit may be considered for graduate classes that are equivalent to one of our concentration elective courses.
Q: Is an interview required?
A: No, however, a personal interview is another opportunity for you to discuss your candidacy, and differentiate your application from other applicants.
Q: Can I interview over the phone?
A: We prefer to meet you in person, and ask that you make every attempt to schedule a campus visit. If this is not possible, we can arrange a phone interview.

Q: Is an appointment required for a campus visit?
A: Yes. While you are welcome to visit the University of Tennessee at any time, making an appointment will allow us to arrange for you to meet current MBA students, sit in on a class, and schedule an interview with a program representative. If possible, contact us a couple of weeks in advance using this convenient Campus Visit Request form.

Q: Is there a minimum GPA requirement for Full-Time MBA Program applicants?
A: All applicants to the University of Tennessee must have a minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 2.70 (4.0 scale) to be considered as a degree-seeking candidate by the Full-Time MBA Program. International applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale), or equivalent.
Q: Is there a probation option if my GPA does not meet the requirements?
A: An applicant whose GPA falls between a 2.5 and 2.7 may be admitted on probation, upon recommendation of the MBA Admissions Committee. The probationary status is removed after 9 hours of graduate credit with a minimum GPA of 3.0. International students cannot be admitted on probation and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, or equivalent, to be considered for admission.
Q: What is the average GPA of the UTK MBA class?
A: Our average GPA varies with each incoming class. Typically, it is about 3.34 (4.0 scale).
Q: When evaluating my application, does the MBA Admissions Committee consider my overall GPA or my major GPA?
A: The University of Tennessee evaluates your application using the overall GPA. The 2.70 minimum requirement must be met before the MBA Admissions Committee can review an application. When the committee receives your application, both the overall GPA and the GPA within the major (or Junior/Senior year GPA) are considered.
Q: If my undergraduate institution does not use the 4.0 scale, how can I determine if my GPA meets the minimum requirement?
A: Call The Office of Graduate Studies at 865-974-3251 to request an evaluation of your GPA. A copy of your transcript may be required to perform this calculation.
Q: Do I need to take the TOEFL/IELTS?
A: You must take either the TOEFL or IELTS if your native language is not English and you do not have a degree from a U.S. college/university dated less than two years prior to entering the UT Full-Time MBA Program.
Q: What is the TOEFL/IELTS requirement for international students?
A: The MBA program requires a score of 100ibt (250cbt and 600 paper test) or higher on the TOEFL. A score of 7.5 or higher is required for the IELTS.
Q: How long is the TOEFL/IELTS score valid?
A: The TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years.

Q: What percentage of UT MBA students have a job when they graduate?
A: Over the past three years, about 75-80 percent of UT MBA students have received a job offer before graduation, and 88 percent of UT MBA students have received a job offer within three months of graduation.
Q: Can I contact a recent UT MBA graduate during the admissions process?
A: One of the many privileges of being a Full-Time MBA Program student is having direct access to the alumni network. Once you are admitted to the Program, you will have full access to the alumni network, which includes more than 4,000 business professionals, as well as to our distinguished faculty members.
