The Entrepreneurship & Innovation concentration provides you with the skills to lead innovative organizational change in either the public or private sector, including start-up, for-profit or social cause companies. Through applied coursework obtained in the core curriculum and primary concentration, you translate business knowledge into innovative problem solving skills. It provides you with the skills to launch a new business or to function successfully within an established corporation that employs entrepreneurial management strategies. It teaches you how to assess entrepreneurial opportunities, apply strategic consultative thinking to problem solving, assess the commercial potential of an idea or innovation, develop strategic business and financial plans, develop effective presentations, and serve as effective members of an entrepreneurial/innovation team. While all future business leaders can benefit from the innovative focus, this concentration will also enhance your pursuit of an entrepreneurial career, if interested.
E & I coursework combined with a coursework in either Finance, Marketing, Operations, or Supply Chain Management allows you to focus your career aspirations in the following career paths:
Especially if you have previous experience, an MBA that includes Entrepreneurship and Innovation courses provides a solid foundation for a career in consulting. Consulting provides applied learning and networking opportunities.
Experience in a large corporation is a great way to apply business skills and build a solid reputation. Global experiences will also enhance career success. Learning can later be transferred to start-up enterprises.
If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and values, opportunities exist in East Tennessee to join or start a business based upon commercialized technology from UT or Oak Ridge National Laboratory research.
Not-for-profit organizations need and are increasingly willing to pay for E & I skills.
