"One of the things I like about graduates of the MBA program at the University of Tennessee is that they understand the mindset of a successful organization. They know that business is not about greed; they know that, in order to thrive in today's business world, you have to know how to serve others and provide outstanding value regardless of your role in the organization."

Who Should Apply?

All Future Managers
This is not a specialty program. The focus on Integrated Value Chain Management is one that we believe is fundamental for all future global managers, whether they seek a career in consumer package goods, industrial products, services, consulting, manufacturing, etc. The core of this program is still focused around the theme “What does EVERY global manager need to know,” and it will benefit future managers in all functional areas of the business, from finance to marketing to operations to logistics.

Innovators
We are looking for mature individuals who are interested in expanding their managerial and leadership potential. The compressed program is designed to challenge the individual and transform them to a higher level of competency and effectiveness both in their careers and in their lives. This program is best suited for innovators and those individuals who have prior professional work experience. The non-traditional integrated structure of the program requires flexibility, and the team-based approach requires a high degree of tolerance for diversity and ambiguity. Challenge. Transformation. Flexibility. Diversity. Ambiguity. Sounds a lot like the real world, doesn’t it?

Desirable Student Profile
We don’t set minimum cut-offs, nor do we use admissions “formulas.” We look at the complete profile of the applicant, weighing strengths and weaknesses. However, from experience we know that students who are successful academically in the program and, more importantly, have strong job placement and career advancement have the following characteristics:

  • Prior professional work experience (number of years and quality of the experience),
  • Academic performance (as evidenced by the applicant’s grade point average and GMAT score),
  • Diversity (in terms of background, ethnicity, gender, and work experience),
  • Leadership and maturity potential (as evidenced from essay responses, interviews, and references).
